My work is shaped by a long-standing fascination with storytelling, folklore and symbolism. I'm taken with the way these old narratives allow menace and whimsy to coexist, and the feeling that this instils in us. By playing with familiar subjects and surreal compositions, I like to mirror this contrast in my work and create a similar tension. Drawing has always been the at the core of my visual language. While many of my sketches are complete works individually, together they serve as a deeper trove of ideas to draw on when approaching larger projects, like paintings and collage.
